Charitable Reuse Australia Conference – Melbourne 2024

The 2024 Charitable Reuse Australia conference will be held at The Crowne Plaza Melbourne on 14-15 October 2024. The Crowne Plaza is part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, and not related to the casino (!!) which has a similar name. It has a massive ballroom with sweeping views across the river right in the heart of Melbourne.

Our conference theme for 2024 is ‘People & Strategies’ and there are two major new agenda initiatives this year.

  • Firstly, in addition to all the future strategies around charitable retail, reuse and resource management, this conference will bridge the gap between people and strategies, and link how to engage and bring your teams along with your strategic journey.
  • Secondly, we have secured an additional break-out room in which we will deliver specific, practical, operational content for Shop Managers only, and run this concurrently with the strategic plenary sessions in the main ballroom.

This is the first time we have created an additional breakout room giving you two choices for two levels of your people attending. The plenary will focus on innovative strategic levels for organisational leaders, while the Shop Manager Breakout sessions will provide practical, operational and developmental content designed specifically for shop managers.

We’re also ramping up the fun again in 2024, so make sure you also book the conference dinner on the Monday night for leaders and shop managers alike. We’re bringing back the Show us Your Style op shop dress-up segment that was so popular last year, along with a DJ to get everyone dancing and of course everyone’s favourite MC Mandy Scotney.

Registration is now open, so make sure you join your peers and all the leaders of the charitable reuse sector in Melbourne on 14-15 October 2024.

This year’s theme is PEOPLE & STRATEGIES

Every year, the Charitable Reuse Australia Conference brings together the very best speakers in Australia and overseas on the most important topics affecting the future of charitable reuse and retail – to inspire and elevate thinking for the year ahead.

This year’s conference takes it up another notch with the theme of People & Strategies, because the link between people and strategies is a critical aspect of organisational success. No matter how innovative and forward-thinking a strategy is in concept, it still needs people to execute it with confidence. And in today’s environment of continual structural and market change, the need for progressive strategies has grown again – which in turn creates a greater need to engage internal leaders, teams and volunteers. Organisations that recognise and strengthen this link are far better positioned to achieve their strategic objectives, and this is what the conference will deliver.

Day 1 kicks off with a powerful keynote on ‘Bridging the Strategy-People Disconnect’ between your people’s needs, capabilities and motivations in relation to your strategic objectives.

Our Day 1 keynote speaker is people strategist Nina Mapson Bone, former managing director of Beaumont Consulting and author of the 2023 book Meaningful Work.

The concurrent breakout room for Shop Managers also supports the conference theme, with specific, bespoke, practical and operational content designed specifically for your Shop Managers to help them move strategy from ideas on a page to realised high performing outcomes.

Day 2 starts with a keynote on ‘100 Years of Op Shops – Past, Present and Future’ with an insightful and entertaining narrative on the power and purpose of op shops, brought to you Robyn Annear, author of Nothing New: A History of Second Hand. This keynote will inspire your teams to rise above all the noise and myths around our sector and accelerate charitable retail sales for the next 100 years – and set the tone for the retail day sessions to follow.

The Charitable Recycling Australia Conference is known as one of the most vibrant, high energy, positive and collaborative conferences in Australia. That’s due to the ethos and passion of over 200 members connecting and enjoying the face-to-face experience of an inspiring and elevating agenda with some of Australia’s best speakers, as well as our government stakeholder colleagues and corporate partners who all work together. It’s the perfect place for the sector to convene, so make sure you’re in Melbourne on 14-15 October 2024. And bring your Shop Managers.
